Thousand-Armed Chenresig Thanka
Very high quality hand-painted thanka of the Thousand-Armed Chenresig (Avalokiteshvara), the bodhisattva of compassion and the patron deity of Tibet. It is painted on a goldleaf background surrounded by miniature gold calligraphy, all on a dark navy brocade.
The Thousand-Armed form of Chenresig is known as the embodiment of resilience, and is valued for his potent healing power. Gelongma Palmo—a famous Tibetan nun known for her diligence and faith— was said to have cured herself of leprosy by praying to this Thousand-Armed form.
This was purchased at Surendra’s Tibetan Thanka Shop in Katmandu, while on pilgrimage to Tibet with Charles Genoud. Surendra is well known for his collection of excellent quality thankas: This is the shop where Charles, Brendan and Lama Willa purchase thankas for themselves and friends.
