Handcrafted Knit Hat made by Janice Matichuk and an autographed book "Her Island"

This package has the best to offer.

A one-of-a-kind handcrafted knit hat that was made with loving hands Cache Bay Ranger, Janice Matichuk, and an autographed book by local author Joe Friedrichs that wrote about her life "Her Island".

Janice would knit in her free time during the off-season.

The book "Her Island" is a new book by local author Joe Friedrichs that shares the story of Janice Matichuk, the longest-serving ranger in the history of Quetico Provincial Park. Located near the end of Minnesota’s iconic Gunflint Trail, Quetico is the heart of North America’s “canoe country.”

Matichuk first set foot on her island in Quetico in 1985. Tragically, she passed away in August 2020 after she fell ill from brain cancer. Her Island focuses on Matichuk and her time working in Quetico. This is a story about life inside one of North America’s most remote places. It is also a reflection of a woman who broke through barriers and refused to conform to societal norms.

A percentage of the sale will go towards the Atikokan Pictograph Gallery.
