Thousand-Armed Chenresig

Framed print of the thousand-eyed, thousand-armed form of Chenresig (Avalokiteshvara). Legend has it that the bodhisattva Chenresig once looked around at the intense suffering of the world, and shattered into a thousand pieces. Amitabha put him back together again, blessed him, and told him he would now—having really experienced “falling apart”— be a thousand times as effective in helping others. The thousand-armed form is also the central figure for a popular fasting and purification practice called “nyungne”, written by the great female master Gelongma Palmo. This form is therefore also associated with resilience, purification and healing.
