This painting has special meaning for me. I painted this at Mexico Beach, FL this past spring. Mexico Beach was devistated by hurricane Michael fall of 2018. As I drove into Mexico Beach, seeing the distrcuation was ubleavable. So much was changed, gone, and not cleaned up. You could see a lot of clean-up was happening, but there was still so much to do.
I did one painting of the clean-up efforts, but this painting was about the beauty that still remained dispight all the distruction. It reminded me of my experience with Makeena. The trauma of loosing her broke and devistated me. But, through all the ugliness of the horrors I was living through, there was wonderful joy and loveliness.
She survived the birth, which was a miricle. I got to spend almost every day of her life in her presence. I learned to rely on God more then ever before. I learned how to pick myself up, share my story with others, and have more compassion. Makenna taught me to love deeper.
This painting reminds me of the beauty that still remains among the ruble of dispair.
