2016 Belle Glos "Dairyman" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

Owner and winemaker Joseph Wagner named Belle Glos winery in honor of his grandmother, Lorna Belle Glos Wagner, who was a co-founder of Caymus Vineyards in Napa Valley. Wagner produces Pinots from all over California and the grapes for this particular wine come from the Dairyman vineyard in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County. This vineyard was once a dairy farm and pastureland, and sits on the southern alluvial plains of the Russian River Valley near the ocean, a region where cooling fog comes in through the Petaluma Gap in the morning and once again in the evening. The wine’s color is a brilliant ruby red, which hints at the wine's appealing aromas of cherry, nutmeg, and cranberry. On the palate, the wine is velvety smooth with red cherry, sweet baking spice, and plum balanced by bright acidity.

Wine Spectator gave this wine a 92 rating.   “Reliant on seductive, creamy, vanilla-laced oak, a trait that will divide purists and hedonists. An appealing if obvious choice for those who like prominent oak. Drink now through 2024.”  (6/2018)
