Tingsha Chimes—Om Mani Padme Hum

This is a set of brass "Om Mani Padme Hum" Tibetan Tingshas. The mantra Om Mani Padme Hum means "Om the Jewel in the Lotus Hung." It is recited by Tibetan Buddhists to invoke Chenrezig, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. Repeating this mantra accumulates merit and eases negative karma; meditating on it is believed to purify the mind and body.

Tingsha chimes are traditionally used to invoke spirits and also to mark the beginning and end of meditation. They are also used by a Buddhist master to bring a student back into focus when his mind wanders during meditation.

The chimes measure 2.75" across.
