Hand-Painted Thanka—The Twelve Great Deeds

This is a beautifully detailed original thanka painting, executed with incredible detail and skill. It depicts the twelve great acts of the Buddha's life. Although its origin is unclear, it is a remarkable find and a hidden gem in this auction.

1) His promise to descend to earth,
2) His mother, Mayadevi's, dream of being impregnated by a white elephant,
3) The Buddha's birth,
4) The Buddha's early years and palace life,
5) The Four Encounters with birth, old age, illness, and death,
6) Leaving the palace and become an ascetic,
7) Six years of austerity,
8) Striving for enlightenment,
9) The defeat of Mara,
10) Turning the Wheel of Dharma,
11) Teaching Dharma to his mother in Triyatrimsa Heaven,
12) Passage in Parinirvana.

This thanka is hand-painted on canvas and measures 22.5 x 16.5 inches. It is unframed.
