David Robinson Signed Rare Memorabilia

Authentic, autographed, rare vintage limited edition book cover, mint condition (framed and matted) sponsored by David Robinson and Nike Stay In School tour 1991-1992.

Also two rare highly sought after David Robinson collectible cards 1) Naval Academy graduation card, extremely rare 2) limited edition David Robinson 1992 Olympic Dream Team NBA Hoops card.

The person? David Robinson never dreamed he would ever become a professional basketball player or be selected to play on the Dream Team in 1992 and 1996 Olympics! He loved to read and learn and was very quiet growing up in Virginia. His senior year in high school, he grew to be 7'4 and his high school coach taught him to play basket ball. He was selected to be the first draft pick in the NBA with a million dollar contract waiting for him but he decided his education was more important, and selected college over basketball.

He graduated from the U. S. Naval Academy in mathematics. He had dreams of being an engineer. He was then again drafted by the NBA as the first draft pick. He signed with the San Antonio Spurs but put his million dollar salary and basketball career on hold to keep his word to the Naval Academy and served active duty for his country for two years. In 1991 he finally entered professional basketball. He was voted Most Valuable Player and played in several NBA All-Star Games.

The significance? David Robinson said "a brain is a beautiful thing to waste and reading is freedom -- it is something no one can ever take away from you. He asked himself,"what if I get injured ? What if I lose my arm?" "At least I have my education that is more priceless than a basketball career to sustain me for the rest of my life. Reading takes me to far away places more surreal than traveling with a basketball team."

So let this book cover remind you of the days when textbooks were recycled and protected and cherished by covering with a child's favorite kind of paper. The Naval Card represents his deferred gratification to study risking losing a million dollar career. And the Olympic card is the result of overcoming adversity, discrimination, peers making fun of him because he liked to read and getting the GOLD.
