"Byodo-In Temple Black Swan" Kimberly Reed-Deemer (Kahaluu, Oahu)

"Byodo-In Temple Black Swan" Kimberly Reed-Deemer. (Kahaluu, Oahu) Original watercolor and ink.  19" x 20.5".  Matted, not framed.

The Byodo-In Temple, a spiritual place of breathtaking beauty and tranquility on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, has several black swans in the stream flowing around the grounds.  I had never seen black swans before, and loved the contrast of the red bills against the dark feathers.

Kimberly Reed-Deemer grew up in a small town northwest of Chicago. She attended the American Academy of Art in Chicago, eventually continuing her education at Northern Illinois University. After leaving NIU, she worked in portraiture and landscapes, focusing on charcoal, pen and ink drawings, and watercolors.

Upon moving to New Mexico in 2004, and freshly inspired by the cultural and natural landscape of the area, Kimberly returned to fine art full time. Her current body of work includes distinctive interpretations of Southwestern subjects such as Native American, Baile Folklorico, and Flamenco dancers and musicians, as well as evocative landscapes in oil or watercolor with ink, and an ongoing series of the Iron Tribe metal sculptors of New Mexico Highlands University's Art Foundry.

Kimberly and her husband, a sculptor, work in their home studios in an 1890’s Victorian house they have renovated, located in the rich arts, culture and historic destination of northern New Mexico.

Kim is represented by The Gallery at the historic art hotel, La Posada de Santa Fe, in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  Her watercolors are available at El Zocalo Gallery on the historic Plaza of Las Vegas, New Mexico.
