"Vibrant Sky and Hills" Eloise Lindeborg

Untitled Vibrant Sky and Hills. Eloise Lindeborg. Watercolor. Framed 37" x 30". Image 28.5" x 23.5".  White mat in walnut toned wood.

Inspired by the arid colors of the often dry landforms and skies in Northeast New Mexico, This c. 1965 untitled abstract painting by Eloise Lindeborg sharply depicts both the absence and the hoped for presence of moisture.

Lindeborg, her husband and two young sons arrived in Las Vegas, New Mexico, in 1949 in a three-year-old black Buick towing their possessions in a pine and forest green metal trailer.  She already knew the bright light and vivid colors of the arid mountains and canyons of the Southwest from a year spent before WWII at the Grand Canyon.  This vibrant world continued to inspire her work for nearly 20 years as she created portraits, landscapes and abstracts in media ranging pastels to watercolors, oils to acrylics.

Lindeborg exhibited in the 1950s at the New Mexico State Fair, La Galeria de los Artesanos, the Museum of New Mexico (including four annual traveling shows), the Roswell Museum, and Highlands University.  In the 1960s she exhibited at the Museum of New Mexico, Trebor de Taos gallery, the Gallinas Art Guild gallery and the State Capitol Complex.

A native of Newton, Ill., Ms. Lindeborg (1916-1970) received her BFA in painting from the University of Illinois, College of Fine and Applied Arts. She studied portrait painting at the Konsthogskolan (College of Arts) in Stockholm, Sweden, and art history at the University of Stockholm.
