Canton Tower - Wilkinson/Eyre Architects. Guangzhou, PRC
Wilkenson/Eyre’s 2009 design for an “iconic” observation tower in Guangzhou explores the structural concept of the twisted stalk which was perhaps first made famous by I.M. Pei’s unbuilt design for what would later become the PanAm building over Grand Central Station.The building was completed in time for the 2010 in time for the Asian games and briefly surpassed the CN tower in Toronto as the worlds tallest observation tower. This model is a 2 piece object that includes both the tower and its associated park in silver plastic (a reasonable facsimilie of aluminum).
