“Squares and triangles”

This piece is inspired by the craft of quilting. Each second grader was given 2 squares that had been divided in half across the diagonal with a different color. Using colored pencil, they were instructed to divide up the triangles with smaller triangles using whatever colors they chose. This simple addition creates dimension within the squares themselves. When all of the squares are placed together in a quilt like fashion, movement and tension is created between the individual squares and the triangles formed by placing two squares next to one another.
