ABOUT THE STUDIO
Bartleby Objects is a multi-disciplinary design studio, making objects of use for the home and individual.
We feel strongly that style can be substance, form is a function, and fashion is not frivolous.
We make objects that address the needs of work, engage in a relationship to the body, and respond to notions of desire, economy, and power.
We are primarily concerned with offering a set of solutions to make daily life a little sweeter, a little easier.
We consider our goods to be gender-neutral but not explicitly masculine in aesthetic.
We make our objects on a very intimate scale - one at a time, by hand. Our stocked textiles are handmade in Peru. All other products are made in our Brooklyn Navy Yard studio by designer, knitter, weaver, wood-turner, and leather-worker, Mary L Chan.
We consider technique as an expression of culture. The technique utilised takes each object into account - its function, aesthetic, and meaning. To that end, we employ a variety of traditional and contemporary methods to produce collections that embrace and represent a wide range of expression.
