Red Kitty with a Sterling Silver Open Heart Pendant

Medium: Photography, acrylic medium & paint, oxidized sterling silver, red garnets

I’m a jewelry artist; I’ve loved felines my whole life. I decided to see how my pet cats would look wearing my art pendants. I manipulated photos of Red and Mariah to create a portrait size that would be balanced with my pendants. Photos were printed on Epson paper, laminated to the 6” x 6” canvas and then sealed with matt medium. Holes in the canvas allow the necklace to be threaded through and fastened in the back. 
The necklace can be removed for human wearing and replaced on the canvas as desired. Red is an Iowa farm cat who adopted me as a young cat. He was part of a winter litter, and was newly out on his own when he found me in my garden in Summer, 2002. He chose to stay & we’ve been together ever since.
He’s wearing a sterling forged pendant from my “Open Heart” series. He reminds me of the beauty of unconditional love every day.
