Cornell Botanic Gardens - 1-year membership for individual
About Cornell Botanic Gardens: The Cornell Botanic Gardens inspires people - through the cultivation of 150 acres of specialty gardens, conservation of plants and 3400 acres of natural areas, and the education of lifelong learners - to understand, appreciate, and nurture plants and the cultures they sustain. The botanic gardens are located at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Our gardens and natural areas are open free of charge, year round from dawn to dusk. The Nevin Welcome Center is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
As a living museum, our cultivated gardens, arboretum, and natural areas serve as outdoor classrooms for instruction across seven Cornell colleges and host research that seeks to address some of our world’s most pressing problems. We steward the university’s iconic gorges and natural areas, and conduct vital conservation efforts.
The origin of the Botanic Gardens dates back to Cornell's beginning in the mid-19th century and are part of the university's longtime interest in agriculture, forestry, and the natural sciences. The Botanic Gardens saw a major planting effort during the 1930s and assumed the name Cornell Plantations in 1944. Gardens and facilities have continually expanded, including a construction program at the start of the 21st century. The Botanic Gardens also maintains four gardens on Cornell's central campus.
The gardens specialize in trees and shrubs native to New York State. The themed herb garden is especially noted. The Botanic Gardens have been the subject of several books and films over the years, are open daily without charge, and have been recommended as a visitation site by a number of travel books and newspaper travel sections.
