A Rare Tour Experience at Bruce Goff’s Struckus House

The Struckus house, named for the original owner Al Struckus, is architect Bruce Goff’s only residential work on the West Coast. The house was completed in 1987, with the help of architect Bart Prince, who oversaw the final work after Goff’s death.

Clad in California redwood, beige stucco, and glass, the Struckus house is a 1,500 square foot four-story tower arranged in six vertical interlocking cylinders, occupying a humble 50 x 100-foot lot located in Woodland Hills, CA. (Los Angeles/ San Fernando Valley area).

A single spiral staircase ascends out of a circular floor plan, connecting the multi-level interior space and culminating in an open lounge area. A circular skylight illuminates the central 24-foot diameter cylinder and its living spaces below, which includes the fourth-story living room and a third-level master bedroom, both of which have cutaway views to the second-level kitchen and dining area. The open floor plan creates a harmonious composition and a unique residential space that is simultaneously experienced both vertically and horizontally.

The building is a foremost example of the finessed, inventive spatial complexity of Goff’s organic style. The result of Goff’s vision is a sculpture to be lived in, and indeed—living in a Goff house is a life changing experience.

This private tour, approximately 90 minutes to 2 hours, conducted by the owners, will allow up to 4 lucky guests to tour this stunning residence—very rarely open to the public.

Included is a signed first edition hardcover copy of “Organic Architecture: The Other Modernism”, by architect and historian Alan Hess, photography by Alan Weintraub (2006), which includes Bruce Goff’s Ford House (1949). This book is now out of print and is considered a collector’s item.
