About the Artist
I am retired from a career with educational and non-profit organizations in Massachusetts and Maine. Well-traveled, outdoorsy, and curious, I enjoy exploring areas of my adopted home state. Breathing salt air is where I flourish, and for over 30 years, I have lived on Southport Island near Boothbay Harbor. As the weather allows, I paint with the Mid-coast Chapter of the Plein Air Painters of Maine (PAPME). I have taken workshops with local and visiting artists, and like to share ideas, painting excursions and gallery visits.
Art is essential to my well-being, whether by envisioning and creating new works, or by appreciating and encouraging others. Painting has given me a new path with potential for growth, learning and self-actualization.
Artistic Vision: I paint what moves me, that thing or place that I want to call my own. For me, drawing or painting requires a visual and emotional connection, and really seeing something takes time and concentration. From the sketchbook with the lines of color and value notes, to the canvas or paper, my artwork evolves, leaving room for changes or a new spark of inspiration. I am comfortable using oils or watercolors at plein air events, and I am striving for a less is more limited palette and lightweight easel and gear.
