Triangular 3-D Art: Acrylic Paint on Fired Clay

Acrylic Paint on Fired Clay, by Terry Habeger, Markesan, Wisconsin.

Take home this striking multimedia piece, crafted by Terry Habeger (the talented father-in-law of our Development Director, Mark!). The triangular shape, vivid colors, and three-dimensionality will add brightness and whimsy to any space!

Process: "Clay was formed inside a plaster mold to make the 3D shape. To create the mold, I made the form from foam-core board, then built a solid fence around it and poured in liquid plaster. After the plaster hardened I removed the form. Thin slabs of clay were then pressed into the mold. When the clay dried, it was removed from the mold and fired in the kiln. Finally, the piece was primed, textured with an acrylic paste, painted, and framed."

Terry participated in three of MNHC's Field Notes writing workshops (listen to one of his pieces here), and is pleased to donate his artwork to the Montana Natural History Center!
