Field Trip ~ Exploring the Volcanic Geology & Landscape Evolution of the Jemez and Central Rio Grande Rift for up to Six
Most geologists believe that the Rio Grande formed as a major river 1–2 million years ago
This field trip will be led by Dr. Nelia Dunbar, New Mexico State Geologist. Dr. Bill McIntosh, volcanologist/geochronologist, NM Bureau of Geology, & Dr. Stephen Wells, former New Mexico Tech President and NMT professor.
- We will explore the fascinating geology of the Jemez Volcanic Field area, starting at the White Rock Canyon overlook & ending in the quaint village of Jemez Springs, where geothermal springs are heated by the volcano
- Lunch and beverages will be provided by Steve & Beth Wells, however at the end of the field trip we will provide an option to stop for dinner & beverages at Los Ojos Restaurant and Saloon in Jemez Springs.
