Jon Keith Swindell has worked in the discipline of sculpture since 1974, with an emphasis on museum-based installations. He has been the recipient of an NEA Regional Award in Sculpture and the inaugural Kansas Arts Commission Meritorious Fellowship in Sculpture. Jon’s work has been exhibited internationally in England, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Mexico and Canada, as well as in 44 of the contiguous states of the USA and in Alaska and Hawaii. His work is represented in over 75 public and private collections, including the Sheldon Art Museum, the Museum of Nebraska Art, the Mulvane Museum, and the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and Art. In 1986 Jon joined the KU Design faculty in the School of Fine Arts, where he holds the prestigious distinction of being a Kemper Teaching Fellow awarded in 1998. In 2010 Jon accepted a new appointment in the Sculpture and Life Drawing areas in the new Visual Arts Department, in the School of the Arts where he taught until his retirement in 2018. He taught previously at Washington State University, the University of Nebraska, and the Columbus College of Art & Design where he began his teaching career in 1972. Jon was the recipient of the Lifetime Teaching Award from The Columbus College of Art & Design in 2017. He was a finalist for the National FATE Teaching Award in 2008 and was a finalist for the Budig Teaching Award at KU in 1997. Jon earned an MFA degree from the University of Nebraska with distinction as the Vreeland Award recipient in 1983, and a BFA degree from the Columbus College of Art and Design in 1973. Jon currently lives and works in his home and studio in historic Vinland, Kansas. Jon Keith Swindell is a native Nebraskan, born in Holdrege in 1950.
