La Loma Bridge Plein Air Pastel

This beautiful, framed pastel landscape was painted “en plein air” on location in Pasadena by Erin Arnold the Art Teacher at Holy Family Catholic School.

Anyone who has been to Pasadena will recognize the icon La Loma Bridge which spans across the Arroyo Seco, a seasonal stream that runs through the city.  The Bridge is approximately 170 feet long and 40 feet wide. It was built in 1914, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is a designated historic landmark in the city of Pasadena.

The term plein air is a French expression that means "in the open air." The style became popular in the mid-19th century, with the advent of portable painting supplies. Impressionists Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Camille Pissarro, are well known for their plein-air paintings, which often depict scenes of everyday life and the changing effects of light and weather.

Soft pastel on sanded pastel paper, artwork size 9”x12,” frame size 12”x16,” matted and framed under plexiglass.
