Bio: Originally from Muskoka, Ontario, I grew up close to nature in a small village of 300 people on the shores of Lake Rosseau. After a few years of international work and travel, I found myself in beautiful BC where I completed my university undergrad in physical geography and Master of Science in environmental management. I started my company, Iron Oaks Environmental Management, in 2014 and have been working as an environmental professional and agrologist in the energy industry for the past decade. Between projects, I try to be available to volunteer with Ducks Unlimited, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Calgary Women in Energy, and Young Women in Energy. I am the mother of a little girl and a little boy who keep me grounded in my family values while I juggle an often-chaotic work schedule. My hobbies include mostly physical activities in natural landscapes, and my care and concern for the natural world has been at my heart center since my earliest memory of being ‘outside’. I decided as a teenager that working to protect the environment, while supporting responsible infrastructure projects, might just be where I can make the biggest positive impact during my time here. My motto is to ‘speak for the things that may not be able to speak for themselves’. I hope this conversation will also contribute positively to the women and children cared for by the Branda Strafford Centre.
