Bio: Maya is a Canadian artist with over 25 years of experience working in the field of art and design. She began her career with a BFA in Painting at UofC, and an MFA in Illustration from the Academy of Art University, San Francisco. Post gradutation, she became a tenured Instructor of Fine Art, specializing in painting and illustration, at the Antelope Valley College. She remained in education from 2002 - 2019, teaching at the Alberta University of Art and Design in the Visual Communications Design and Painting programs. She currently runs and operates her own business providing commissioned artwork for private collections as well as for the public sphere. Examples of her work include her 1000+ square ft mural at Maisons Simons in the Core, portraits at the Mission location of Phil and Sebastian and her large figurative portraits at Fonda Fora, in the Westley Hotel, downtown. Additionally, her work includes the interior design of Calcutta Cricket Club restaurant, which she also co-owns. This design won "Best Restaurant Design” in Canada’s 100 Best Magazine in 2018. Her accolades include awards from the New York Society of Illustrators, being shortlisted by George Lucas to produce a unique artwork for the Star Wars Art: Visions anthology’s and being in numerous publications.  She and her work have been featured in House & Home Magazine, the Globe and Mail, Avenue Magazine, Fashion Magazine, and Four Magazine, among others.  Her work can be found in private collections in Canada, the US, Europe, and the Middle East. 

Fun Fact: I started taking pottery classes last year, and was just terrible at it! I’ve stuck with it and have grown to absolutely love it. I’ve found a new passion.  My other current passion is in what’s called "conscious parenting” as taught by Dr Shefali Tsabary. I am currently enrolled in Conscious Parenting courses and may eventually become a certified Conscious Parenting™coach
