A Wine Tasting

Enjoy pairing these fine Napa and Willamette Valley wines with your choice of cheese from The Cheese Cave here in Claremont.

  • Grgich Hills Estate Grown Chardonnay 2019
    Napa Valley
Miljenko “Mike” Grgich has been called “The King of Chardonnay” since the winery began in 1977, and you can taste why in this classically-styled wine.

This Chardonnay entices you with aromas of fresh peach, Asian pear, citrus, and honeycomb to delight your senses—organically grown grapes.

Pairings: Bleu cheese, English hard cheddar or Camembert, fish tacos, smoked salmon, grilled whitefish, and grilled shellfish.

A lovely floral accent mingles with the blackberry and cedar aromas with a bit of aeration. Soft yet mouth-filling, the berry flavors dominate the palate with hints of mineral and caramel that add additional character.

Pairings: Aged cheddar (fun tip, aged cheddar with aged Cab, fresh cheddar with young Cab), Gouda, Blue cheese, Majon, Gruyere, steaks, lamb, short ribs, or braised beef dishes.

Winemaker Notes (pdf)

With this bottling of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon,  Rockerbox Vineyard plays the Yin to Yountville Ranch’s Yang – while our Hopper House Vineyard fills the middle range.  Sensuous aromatics layer vanilla and marzipan without  overpowering the intensity of jammy boysenberry and raspberry notes. Lush, juicy texture offers perfect balance to the chewy tannins that follow through the finish.

Light to medium-bodied, Oregon Pinot is more finely boned than California Pinot. It displays a wide, aromatic range of flavors, including strawberry, raspberry, delicate floral notes, and earthier notes like mushrooms and truffles.

Pairings: Enjoy this wine alongside nuts, fruits, cheese and crackers, roast chicken, turkey, and veal scaloppini.
