"Tomorrow's Light" by Pireeyanga Nanthakumar & Sheeya Patel

Our paddle story begins off by showing the winter scenery of Banff and Lake Louise, a popular tourist attraction located in Alberta. One one side, the grip of our paddle includes a cornflower which is a national symbol of hope for ALS. We painted the background black to represent the fear overtaking the hope. The snow patched mountains show the obstacles and fear that may be present in one’s life. Then the birds are shown to be flying away from this darkness towards the brighter side of the paddle. The birds symbolize the people affected by ALS and shows that they can escape with hope. On the other side of the paddle, it shows the summer view of Banff and Lake Louise. The birds are shown to be flying towards this side as there is freedom and many opportunities to escape the sadness and fear. At the grip of the paddle on this side, we also painted the blue cornflower in its true colours. The colour we chose for the background is yellow since it represents happiness powered by teh hope of the flower. Then the mountains are to symbolize eternity and happiness through the conflicts and fear one has surpassed. The water represents a new beginning in life which leads to the evergreen trees showing that your loved ones are there to strengthen you during this difficult time. Overall, this paddle presents hope found in any struggle or fear one may face along the way.

This paddle was submitted as a group trek alongside other members of Middlefield Collegiate Institute.
