E.T. Form from California Ironwood by TJ Anderson

This hollow form creation is made from California Ironwood.  The colors you see are the natural colors in this wood.  The three legs are integral to the piece.  I had no idea what was under the charcoal briquet looking piece of wood when I started and was amazed at the beauty in the wood as I kept peeling away the outer surfaces.  As the piece took shape, I started to see the head of an alien, hence the title.  Additional in-process photos of this piece are available to the successful bidder.  7” wide by 8” high.

I grew up in my father’s custom cabinet shop, so I have been around wood most my life.  I started turning full time about 12 years ago.  It is my passion as well as a great therapy.  My goal with each piece I make is to create something that not only looks good but feels good in the hand.  I turn most of my piece while there is still a lot of moisture in the wood.  After I complete the piece, I place it on a kitchen rack and allow the piece to dry naturally and take on its own unique shape.
