Fire In the Sky (PRO)

Fire In the Sky is an original one-of-a-kind painting in oil paint and cold wax on cradled board, 16" x 16". This piece was included in my solo exhibition This Earth in 2018 where I explored themes such as fragility, imagination and our planet earth. In the summer of 2017, I was on a road trip from BC to Ontario during the time the forest fires were at their height that year. It was frightening and overwhelming to experience the flames even at a distance and to see and smell smoke filled skies. Here is an excerpt from my exhibition's artist statement from This Earth : "Technicolour paintings from the exhibition This Earth tell imaginary stories of people and places afar though close to home, about planet earth and its fragile environment. Experimenting with oil and cold wax, I explore my impressions of the world around me, envisioning an alternate view of the planet Earth. For me, this process is one of mystery, discovery and unexpected results, fuelling the inspiration for my next piece. High key and saturated colours underline the anxiety I feel for possibilities of disaster, while simultaneously delivering unexpected delight and a hopeful forecast."
