Mountain Refuge (PRO)
I grew up in North Vancouver, at the foot of the mountains, where our street ended in a cul de sac by a stream. Up and down that hill, the stream was the boundary between habitat for humans and habitat for wildlife. On one side of the stream there were houses, cars, lawns and roads. On the other side, a lush wet rainforest. Decades later, I now live on the Sunshine Coast of BC, where the mountains again provide refuge for wildlife, because it's more expensive and less convenient for us to build up there. I look up at slopes covered with trees and hope that those mountains will resist our human urge to log and build, so that the wild plants and creatures will always have this refuge. This painting is primarily oil paint and cold wax - with some graphite and charcoal. When viewed up close, the viewer is rewarded with lots of surface texture, mark-making, and colour variations. The painting is 8 x 10 inches. It is painted on a 1.5 inch deep cradled board which can free-stand on a shelf or desk if you wish. It is wired, ready for hanging. Sides are painted white so you have the option to hang it unframed. Shipping is included in the winning bid.
