Wolf's Call for Peace

Mixed media: photography and original watercolor, printed and painted on Watercolor paper cold press 7.7x 11.5 inches by Miren Delgado and Claudia Bic.

We have created this mixed media art work to take action towards the BC Wolves protection. The idea came from brainstorming how we could create a piece of art together that could blend our work, taking into consideration our different styles, and artistic areas (photography and watercolor), as well as location separation, since Claudia lives in Powell River and Miren in Vancouver. We finally came up with the idea of Claudia creating the background through a photography and Miren painting the wolf. We printed the landscape directly on watercolor paper, leaving unprinted space on the area where we decided to position the wolf, as well as few stones to better blend the two media together. Claudia's image displays some beautiful landscape near the Octopus Islands, on the way to the Discovery Islands, in BC. Miren's watercolor represents a coastal wolf howling towards the sky. We went for a dominant blue palette as it symbolizes our Planet Earth, and creates a peaceful and calm atmosphere. This first time team project pushed us to go beyond the way we are used to work on individual projects, allowing for creativity, freedom, and exploring new ways to create. Through the process of this piece we experienced the power of partnership to defend a common cause: to end the wolf cull in BC. Grateful for living in beautiful BC, we believe in protecting, respecting and living in harmony with the rest of species and the environment.
