T65A2 Orca Breaching (PRO)

This winter, before the start of Covid, I completed an artist residency on Vancouver Island. On leap year day, I was whale watching, and had the honour of observing the critically endangered Southern Resident orcas (the J-pod). It was in this moment that I knew these beautiful creatures of the Salish Sea would be my muse. Of the many paintings finished during the two months on the island, this 12x12 inch watercolour 'T64A2 Orca Breaching' painting is cherished. In the painting, the transient orca is breaching out the Salish Sea’s silvery grey waters against a blue sky. You can see the droplets of water cascading from the orca’s body. It’s a captivating painting that showcases the powerful nature of the orcas. This painting is offered as an unframed original, embodying all the beauty of the PNW. A little about the artist: Desiree Eberling Penner is a watercolorist that was born and raised in the prairies of Canada; however she has fallen head over heels in love with the Pacific Northwest. Her artwork is highly influenced by the cold Pacific waters and the creatures that call it home. Desiree uses her watercolours to invite dialogue about conservation efforts to safeguard this wild and rugged place.
