Secret September

“Secret September” is an important piece for me because it was my first acrylic painting. I specifically had the natural processes and ecosystem in mind while coming up with the concept of the artwork. The piece is a painting of a spirit bear hunting pacific salmon during a salmon run of a red cedar forest; they are all major landmarks of British Columbia. “Spirit Bears” are simply black bears with a colour mutation. I wanted to portray the serenity I feel when watching wildlife interact, even if it involves the death of another. After all, death is a part of life and one organism’s death is another’s life. Since I don’t have the largest budget, I used acrylic paints. This piece has won a place in the Wild Postcard Project 2018
