This painting  represents a BC Steelhead being teased by a catch and release fly fisherman….Steelhead are commonly referred to as the fish of a thousand casts. Because you literally can cast a thousand times and never land one. But that one time, that one fight that lasts for 10 minutes is worth the other 999 times. The remote coastal wilderness Steelhead streams of British Columbia hold exceptional spring Steelhead populations located in the stunning fjords of the Great Bear Rainforest.

This highly luminous and distinctive  textural painting, where I have applied thick layers of acrylic paint and medium with palette knives, resulting in a 3-D effect, suggesting organic energy, flow and movement. My paintings reflect the scope of imagery as viewed from the vastness of space or through the lens of a microscope.

 I use mixed media for its capacity to reach beyond the visual, to more tactile and tangible processes. I curate combinations of materials and techniques to abstract reality, telling a story to elicit an intimate aesthetic and emotional response.
