Meditative Reflections 1 (PRO)

This impressionistic painting, captures a “zoomed” impression of a sunset in the deep marine waters that exist off the coast of the Great Bear Sea adjacent to the Great Bear Rainforest. One of the richest cold-water marine environments in the world. Its pristine, thriving waters are packed with nutrients, supporting an abundance of whales, all five species of Pacific salmon, as well as dolphins, porpoises, sea birds and other marine life.

This highly textured, abstracted painting, where I have applied thick layers of acrylic paint and medium with palette knives, resulting in a 3-D effect, suggesting organic energy, flow and movement. My paintings reflect the scope of imagery as viewed from the vastness of space or through the lens of a microscope.

I use mixed media for its capacity to reach beyond the visual, to more tactile and tangible processes. I curate combinations of materials and techniques to abstract reality, telling a story to elicit an intimate aesthetic and emotional response.
