Any Fish There (PRO)

Weaving. Handwoven on Jacquard loom. Size 20"x 24", mounted on the frame.

The bear is often considered the symbol of masculinity and power but I have chosen to represent it through the traditionally feminine fibre arts technique, where the deliberate small scale, the woven structure and soft pastel colours depict a softer view.

This work is based on the photo which I took on a recent trip to Knight Inlet. I could sense the harmony of this wild place as I observed the bears, who quietly came from the woods to the creek to catch fish and  refuel before winter hibernation. I felt humble and filled with respect for the natural world. Overall, I agree with Jane Goodall, who said: “To reconnect with nature is the key if we want to save the planet”.
