8"x10", makeup crayon and pigment on canvas, ready to hang. The beauty industry is one of the many global industries that leave lasting impacts on the Earth, from the destruction of coral reefs to the buildup of microplastics. Through a local second-hand item swapping platform, I collected expired lipsticks, glitter, eyeshadow powder and other pigments made for makeup, and create paintings with a mixture of products that would otherwise go to waste. The abstract imagery is inspired by deep sea flora and fauna, highlighting the contrast and vibrancy in colours. This piece can be displayed as a diptych with Ocean Deep I.
