Dennis Ekstrom (1944-2011) studied, worked and exhibited in Southern California. His experience in paint-manufacturing developed his interest in ‘creating textures, and inventing new surfaces and drying techniques’. Process is where Ekstrom has control over the piece, all the while allowing chance to intervene during the drying process—ultimately creating mesmerizing and varied crackled patterns. As natural forces take over, the earth-toned patterns and the graceful tension of the cracked surfaces evoke images of shattered terrain or porcelain.
