Be Kind | Linocut Print

From the "Wisdom Sayings" series... This series of prints are illustrations of my favorite wisdom quotations from across literature, culture and history. They were born out of a desire to learn from the great trove of experience and lessons from those who came before us. I start each print by choosing a favorite quotation, usually one that I jotted down in my always-present notebook ages ago, or came across in a book, or remembered from childhood. I create the design by sitting down to hand draw the quotation and letting myself play with the lettering and lines, and whatever comes to mind as I think about the saying and what it means. After the drawing is done, I transfer it to a linoleum or wood block, hand carve the image on the block, then ink and print the block by hand. It is a beautiful, ancient process that is slow and quiet, meditative, and thoroughly enjoyable...
