"Burnt" by Floyd Elzinga

"Burnt" was inspired by firefighter John Hamm.  The surface of the wooden paddle is a charred matte finish which hosts the finish of freshly burned wood but more importantly emanates odour of burnt wood.  That smell could be either nostalgic or haunting.  Fire is a force that John Hamm reckoned with for a living.  This paddle is an homage to someone who challenged one of earth's primal forces and has left us too soon.
