100 knot Tibetan carpet or wall hanging of Potala Palace

This lovely item was donated by Paul Thomas and Bob Brown (environmentalist and former leader of the Greens). They got it from the Jawalakhel Tibetan Refugee Camp in Kathmandu in 2004.

If you are looking for a unique Tibetan decoration for your home, this could be just the thing! This lovely piece, made from sheep’s wool, would make the perfect wall hanging or carpet. It depicts the Potala Palace, the winter palace of His Holiness the Dalai Lama before he was forced to flee Tibet. The Potala Palace is a dzong fortress in Tibet’s capital Lhasa. The palace is named after Mount Potalaka, the mythical abode of the bodhisattva of infinite compassion, Avalokiteshvara, whom Tibetans call Chenrezig.
