The sculptor of this piece said he got the idea for the piece when he first became a Christian. He said the Bible is full of ordinary people who do extraordinary things. Statues of famous people are found throughout our culture, so why not in the church? In this piece John is standing on an uneven rock. His clothing is the artist's interpretation of the verse found in Mark 1:6 that talks about John the Baptist being dressed in clothes made from camel's hair with a leather belt around his waist. The inscription on the rock (base)is from John 1:29 "Behold the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world." 4th edition piece Height: 40"
