Annapurna I

Photograph—Nepal, Annapurna Sanctuary: A 5-7 day trek up steep slopes of dense bamboo and brilliant red rhododendron forests leads through a narrow entrance into the glacial amphitheater of Annapurna Sanctuary (4,130m). The Sanctuary is surrounded eight mountain peaks (+7000m), including the triple peaks of Annapurna I (ctr. 8091m) and Machapuchare (Fish Tail, 6991m). Annapurna is the Hindu Goddess of the Harvest.

Don Perrault’s photographs in this auction were created while he was traveling in Nepal and Tibet between 2002-2004. His photographs are used to raise awareness for the people, culture, and landscapes in the region, and for financial support for non-profit initiatives across the globe.
