Graffiti Fence Art Class - 4th and 5th Grade
Students will explore the history of graffiti and learn about its evolution to street art to create a fence name design. They will:
- Build, paint, and color a standing “fence” with popsicle sticks and adhere it to a foam base
- Design a creative interpretation of their name (or positive word) with graffiti-inspired letters
- Add optional natural adornments (i.e. rocks, plants, sand, etc.)
(Graffiti as vandalism will be stressed in the lesson, and the difference between graffiti art on different mediums versus on private property without permission will be accentuated. Urban art murals are commissioned by many cities and communities, and students will learn about the countless street artists who express their talents in a legal way while getting compensated.)
This class is appropriate for 4th and 5th grade students. All materials will be provided.
