"Inventing Herself" Tina Mion. 1983. Four color stone lithograph #16/16. 26.5" x 18". Not framed. Taller De Gráfica, Havana, Cuba.
This was Mion’s first stone lithograph. She created it in Cuba in 1983 at the Taller De Gráfica, Havana’s famous print shop. It is from her earliest series “Green Rooms”. It is number 16 of 16, signed numbered and stamped.
Tina Mion has been a Southwestern artist for the last twenty years and is originally from Washington D.C.
Mion has exhibited three times at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery and has had many one-woman shows. Her work is in many collections including the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery and the Albrecht- Kemper Museum of Art.
Mion’s work has been used in university classes on American History and Death and Dying. She has been featured in many news and art programs including NPR’s morning Edition with Susan Stamberg, Arizona Highways Television, American Public Media, CBS News, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and the Boston Globe.
Mion has given talks at many venues including Chicago University, LA County Art Museum and Phoenix Art Museum. A documentary film of her work “Tina Mion Behind the Studio Door” by David Hertzberg was the official selection in many film festivals in the United States and Canada.
Mion and her husband bought and restored the Historic La Posada Hotel in Winslow Arizona where she has her studio, they are currently restoring the Historic Castañeda Hotel in Las Vegas New Mexico.
