"Grapes & Plums" Lin Chibante
Grapes & Plums (Hexie Quilt) Lin Chibante (Quilted by Lynne Horpedahl) 57 ½” x 64 ½”. April 2013
One of the first kaleidoscope quilts I made. The yellow-greens set off the deep purples and lavenders and are repeated in the border strips. The borders feature interrupted segments and a narrow flange strip. The hexagons display many variations making the color pattern flow across the quilt. This quilt will make a wonderful throw or twin bed cover but it will be outstanding as a wall hanging adding conversation and color to any room. It has good drape and a dramatic back design using some of the “outtake” elements.
Lin Chibante lives with her husband, two dogs, a cat and extensive gardens on their ranch in the mountains of northern New Mexico. She loves to write short stories, read, garden and sew. Her retirement from farming and teaching in 2009 allows her to also dabble in art using the media of watercolor and fabric. Ten years ago she discovered quilting and teaches sewing and quilting techniques at Luna Community College in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Her pieces reflect her love and respect for color and craftsmanship.
