Richardson graduated from Frostburg State University and earned his master's degree in art education at Arizona State University. He taught at a College Park high school for 16 years before moving to a stone house in New Market and realizing, if he lived frugally, he could pursue being an artist full time.
Harry became a full-time artist in 1985. Since then, he has exhibited in many galleries and art festivals in the Mid-Atlantic Region. He was a member of Spectrum Gallery in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. for nineteen years.
His paintings and prints are in private and corporate collections all over the United States and several foreign countries. His work is in the art collection of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. He has exhibited in group shows at the Baltimore Museum Of Art, the Corcoran Museum, Washington, DC, the Chrysler Museum, the Mariner’s Museum in Newport News, VA., and other major exhibitions.
In 2008, he was invited to paint a large ornament with four representative scenes from Western Maryland for the Blue Room Christmas tree at the White House. He and his wife Deborah were honored to attend a special reception and dinner at the White House, hosted by Laura Bush.
In the fall of 2011, four of his paintings were chosen for a special 80th Anniversary Exhibition at the Washington County Museum Of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, Maryland. The show was called “The Wyeth Family and The Wyeth Influence” and featured art by Andrew Wyeth, son Jamie Wyeth, and other family members, as well as regional artists like Harry, who were influenced by the Wyeth style of realism.
In March of 2012, Harry and his wife Deborah were featured in a Maryland Public Television documentary, “Historic Barns Of Maryland”. The show features a variety old barns and their past and present uses, as well as interviews with the owners, historians, and artists who love to be around these historic structures.
In September, 2013, Harry received the People’s Choice Award for his paintings at Artsfest, a large outdoor festival at the beautiful Annmarie Gardens in Southern Maryland.
