The term "halcyon days" is used to refer to a period of time in the past that was happy, peaceful, and prosperous. According to the Greek myth, the halcyon was a bird that nested on the sea and had the power to calm the waves. During this time, sailors could safely navigate the seas, hence, the term "halcyon days" came to represent a time of peace and tranquility.
