Meet our owner, Ariel Barbouth, Found and CEO - Ariel has been working in the food industry since the year 2000, when he co-founded, financed and helped launch Sauces ‘n Love (SnL), a pasta sauce manufacturer based in Massachusetts. SnL products have won over a dozen awards at the NASFT Fancy Food Shows, made it to Oprah’s O list, and are now retailed all over the United States at places such as Whole Foods Markets, Zabar’s, Williams-Sonoma as well as in Sam’s Club, BJ’s Wholesale Club and Costco to name a few. Prior to founding Nuchas, Mr. Barbouth also worked for Myllan-Carberrys bakery in Massachusetts both on the retail side, as a turnaround manager for their bakery/cafés and also at their wholesale production facility, as an internal consultant involved with every single aspect of the operation.
After returning to Argentina for a brief period, and falling in love with fast-casual restaurants that only sold amazing empanadas, Ariel decided to come back to the US in 2008 to develop the Nuchas concept. He set up a commissary in Union City, New Jersey to be close to New York City.
In just 2 years, Nuchas went from complete anonymity to being awarded a much-coveted spot, in the middle of Times Square, in a very competitive RFP from Times Square Alliance and DOT. During that same period, Ariel also managed to secure an SBA guaranteed loan to set up Nuchas Truck operation, which won the 2013 Vendy Award for Rookie of the Year and is currently a finalist for this years’ Vendy Cup. In 2013, he opened Nuchas at Greeley Square. Nuchas won the Vendy Award for People's Choice of the Year in 2014.
Ariel Holds a BS in Manufacturing Engineering from Boston University, and a Masters degree in Business Administration with a dual concentration in Innovation and Technology and International Business from the same institution, where he was also awarded an Award for Excellence in Academic Achievement. In 2012, he was named Minority Entrepreneur of the Year by the Small Business Development Center of New York. This year, the Brooklyn Hispanic Chamber of Commerce named him Entrepreneur of the year.
