Cadet Chapel United States Air Force Academy - Walter Netsch. Colorado Springs, CO

SOM Design partner Walter Netsch's iconic tetrahedronal design for the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado is the crown jewel of America's only modernist military academy. This monolithic replica was sold in the USAFA gift store and is on the larger side at 5.5" tall x 8.5" long x 4" wide. Inspired in part by the church of St. Francis of Assisi, Netsch's design used a grade separation to provide access to a Catholic sanctuary and Jewish synogogue accessed at grade, while the main sanctuary above is accessed from its own staircase. This was the final element of the original design to be implemented.
