HKCEC - Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Center. SOM. Hong Kong PRC

Completed by SOM in 1997 in time for the return of Hong Kong from Britain to China, this model was sold at the HKCEC store around this time and captures the buildings shaped, bird/manta -like roof form visible in the water from the many harborfront skyscrapers nearby. The project was built on an artificial island which infilled a portion of Hong Kong harbor and which would later be the terminus for an even larger haborfront infill that provided a new waterfront central park and city hall.
