My brick is  a portrait of my mother just before she got on the plane in India to immigrate to the states in 1973. She was 20 years old, newly married to my father, who she barely knew, did not speak a word of English, and had never even travelled outside of her village.

She's covered in flower necklaces placed on her by her parent's and family saying goodbye to her. It would be ten years before she saw them again. So much sacrifice for a better life.
